The cover of the Burbank Leader this morning shows that Whole Foods is going to make a second attempt to land in Burbank. And it wont be some rinky dink operation, it seems.
They’re planning some huge living/parking/shopping package on
W. Olive near NBC and Warner Bros.
I’m not entirely opposed to this….but, do we really need a Whole Foods? First of all, they’re expensive. Second of all, we have Trader Joe’s AND Sprouts.

I don’t have a ‘third’, actually. That’s basically it.
What say any of you? Are you a proponent for Whole Foods coming to Burbank?
The developer wants to change the zoning to build this mixed-use-high-density project. I’m against this. Burbank just passed a General Plan Burbank2035 which revised all the zoning in the city and there is already a problem for some builder? My instincts say no on this one.
Thank you for this insight Jack….something I didn’t know!
I have no problems with the Whole Foods segment, although I think it’s being used as a carrot to sell the project, along with the “green” component. I do have some concerns about how such a large scaled mixed-use residential/commercial project can go into an area I believe was previously zoned for “media specific” uses, and traffic in a already very congested area. I know there were changes made to the General Plan but the massive apartment component isn’t a good fit IMO. Moreover, it looks like the City is bending over backwards to change the rules again for a favored developer’s project under a new “exceptional” clause; Would the Small Business owner on Magnolia get the same help & breaks? High-end mixed-use Downtown Burbank (The Collection) has not been a success and do we really need more Apt’s/Condos when we already have the existing Empire Landing monstrosity on B.Vista @ Empire? I believe the site should be reserved for Media Specific Office/Studio use as originally intended that will bring Jobs to Burbank.
I think you’re spot on here. Thank you for your informed opinion!
