Mayor Emily Gabel-Luddy making it official!
The Rink in Downtown Burbank is now open and in full swing!
The kids and I had the pleasure of giving The Rink a try after Mayor Gabel-Luddy officially opened it for the season on Thursday evening. My excitement for this project can hardly be contained.
Ice-America has done a fantastic job constructing a beautiful rink in he heart of Downtown Burbank that can accommodate up to 165 people. It’s one block from San Fernando Boulevard, so if you’re coming in from out of town…and even if you’re not.. and would like to eat dinner close by before skating, you can really park in one location and do both!
While enjoying our time at The Rink on Thursday night, I did make note of everything I can think of that a family might need to know before headed out for a very special night on the ice.

Essential Family Tips For Visiting The Rink
Fill Out Your Consent Forms
Prior To Skating
Although this is not necessary to do as you can do it at The Rink, it will save you a considerable amount of time before you get there…especially if you have wee ones who don’t like to wait around while you’re on the computer. You can fill those forms out HERE…. you will receive an email notification and once you fill this form out for your children and then for yourself, it’s good for the whole season. You only have to do this once. You will have to fill out one form for all of your kids…and then go back through and fill one out for yourself. Each adult must have one individually on file.

Bring The Right Equipment
You do not need to have your own skates to enjoy The Rink. You can rent them there for $3 and they are quite comfortable. These are all suggestions, but you will need…
Ice Skates (If you own them)
Socks
Snow Pants (If the kids don’t like to get wet)
Hats
Gloves
Bike/Skateboard Helmet For Kids (If you deem necessary, but these can also be rented although there is a limited quantity)
Bobby The Seal Skating Aid can be rented to help the small ones skate for $6. You can see Bobby in action above. He is also good for sitting the little ones on and pushing them as you skate. Even if it’s not that cold out, falling on the ice will make you wet, be prepared if this is all new to you.

Restrooms/Refreshments & Valuables
There are portable toilets available outside of The Rink area, but I suggest you help all kids use the facilities prior to arriving, as it will be difficult to get them off the ice, take skates off, put on shoes and walk to restrooms and then back to the ice. But, of course, I’m a mom and I know this is completely uncontrollable…I’m just letting you know!
There are no refreshments sold at The Rink. As mentioned before, you can easily walk to San Fernando Blvd to Starbucks or a list full of choices for hot chocolate, drinks or small bites to eat. I HIGHLY suggest making sure you have plenty of water or drink with you for the kids. My kids were so thirsty while skating…it’s great exercise!
There are no lockers available for valuables to be stored. The kids and I went on the honor system while leaving our belongings under one of the benches and had no problems and they have plenty of staff around keeping a close eye on things, but they are not responsible for your belongings. If there is someone who can sit with your stuff and watch you all skate, fantastic! Problem solved. If not, I suggest just bringing only what you absolutely need.

I used to ice skate on a actual pond down the street from my house on the east coast!
Nice! We always had a small pond in the backyard when winter came. Michigan winters were cold and made great ice. Good luck Marja!
I Love to skate!! So Excited!!
Sounds fun! I wonder if my 2 year old is too young…
So excited can’t wait! I love Bobby the seal idea!
Yay! We love skating. Can’t wait!
Hello! I’ve ice skated many times! I find roller skating easier but my kids and I love to ice skate. Thanks for helping with the rink!
I used to ice skate when I was younger & I was thinking my girls (age 7 & 10) would enjoy trying it.
I’m not much of a skater (I’m so clumsy) but my daughter really enjoys it. We went last week and brought a friend. Hoping to go back this weekend. We used to drive out to the rink in Santa Monica every year, now we have one just a mile from home!
