Disclosure: I received an amazing, awesome, calming, relaxing 30 minute session that I absolutely loved and a service that will
keep me going back again and again…in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is not your typical sauna. This is not that steam sauna you find at the gym where the dudes come in pacing next to you back and forth singing aloud to music that disrupts the calmness , meanwhile the elderly lady next to you is eating and peeling oranges…in the sauna.
What? That didn’t happen to you? That totally happened to me. The sauna’s I’ve visited have been the least comfortable experiences I’ve had.
Infrared Sauna Therapy is absolutely nothing like what I described above. Heck, it’s not even the same thing, when you discuss the actual sauna method.
Burbank Infrared Sauna recently opened in Burbank and I’ve been very curious. So, I contacted owner Jeannette Tashjian and inquired. She gave me a free 30 minute sweat in exchange for sharing with all of you how I felt about it. But before I did, we actually talked about what infrared is and what the benefits are to this.
Increased metabolism, detoxification, glowing skin, relaxation and stress reduction, soothe sore muscles, helps cognitively, supports cardiovascular health, improve circulation and pain relief are just a few of the ways infrared sauna can benefit our bodies.
So, what exactly is it?
“Sauna therapy has been around for centuries as a way to detoxify your body, but did you know that full spectrum infrared saunas can go even further by heating up your body’s core to a cellular level, where most toxins are stored? Infrared’s deep penetrating heat is what most effectively stimulates metabolic activity, which in turn triggers the release of stored toxins through sweat, as well as through the liver and kidneys.” (bulletproof.com)
Think about it: this is why our bodies go into fever conditions when sick— a hotter body increases metabolic activity, kills unwanted intruders, and stimulates the release of toxins.
This sauna basically detoxes and energizes from the inside out.
I went in to this experience not knowing what to expect at all. Actually, I’m a horrible sweater. I’ve been an athlete all my life and sweating takes me a really long time. Even now, long after my college career, it takes me a long time to sweat.
Owner, Jeannette and I discussed this and it’s common. Some people are stubborn sweaters…my words, not hers. So, she set up the blue light sauna for me, played calm music, dropped some essential oils and I had 30 minutes to sit and sweat.
I think it took me 11 minutes to start sweating! But when I did, I did. It felt amazing. I did realize, however, that I have a hard time sitting for a full 30 minutes….alone..no phone..nothing to do but sit with my thoughts. This is something I’m going to need to work on.
I was suffering from some physical pain from anxiety that morning and although it wasn’t completely eliminated, it was significantly reduced when I left.
I absolutely loved how I felt the rest of the day. It’s like I had snuck in a workout. I am very curious to see how several sessions of this infrared therapy could help my sleep and stress.
Right now, for Mother’s Day, Jeannette is running a special!
I literally can’t wait to go back and get some regular infrared on. I highly suggest giving this sauna therapy a try.
