One of my childhood dreams is coming true! The Baby-Sitters Club is coming in live-action form, to Netflix! This original book series from Ann M. Martin was a staple in my middle school years and we currently have several of these original books on our shelves, inside my home.
I cannot tell you the strings that are tugged on, inside my chest, when I see the covers of these books. I know I read them all and they brought so many exciting adventures to my life. The series will be based on Ann M. Martin’s best-selling book series, The Baby-Sitters Club. It is a contemporary live-action original series that will follow the friendship and babysitting adventures of five best friends in Stoneybrook, Connecticut.
The History Of The Baby-Sitters Club
A little research shows me that The idea for The Baby-Sitters Club series came from Jean Feiwel, an editor at Scholastic who saw the popularity of another babysitting book and realized there was a market for novels about babysitting. She reached out to Ann M. Martin, who took the idea of a babysitter’s club, and created the characters, plots, and settings for the series. It was initially planned as a shorter, four-book series, but after the first four novels were pretty successful, Scholastic ordered two more, followed by twelve more as the series got more popular. By the time the sixth book was published, the first printing was up to 100,000 copies!
What Does Ann M. Martin Say?
“I’m amazed that there are so many passionate fans of The Baby-Sitters Club after all these years, and I’m honored to continue to hear from readers – now grown, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers – who say that they see a reflection of themselves in the characters of Kristy and her friends. So I’m very excited about the forthcoming series on Netflix, which I hope will inspire a new generation of readers and leaders everywhere,” said Ann M. Martin, author of The Baby-Sitters Club.
Personally, I can’t wait to see this series! What a brilliant idea as Netflix has done it again!
