Pirate Party Time: Burbank Style

Backyard parties were a family staple when I was a kid. Theming was conveyed through the color of the cake and printed plates and napkins. Today, however, with the internet, and more specifically Pinterest, moms put a lot of pressure on themselves to host the perfect party.

We recently celebrated my middle son’s 6th birthday with a pirate-themed birthday party. I would have liked to write about all of my homemade pirate-themed snacks and treats inspired from Pinterest, but as a working mom with three boys, I feel like just getting my act together enough to get invitations out more than six days before the party is a major accomplishment.

Once we sent out the invitations, I decided to worker smarter (and not harder) to make the party a day my little guy, his friends and their parents and our family wouldn’t forget–and I did most of which using services and stores right in Burbank.

When it came to food, I grabbed pizza from a local pizza chain for the kids and got Daphne’s sampler trays for all of the adult. While everyone always likes pizza (and it is a given at kids’ birthday parties), the Daphne’s was an enormous hit with everyone at the party–adults and kids alike! Everyone remarked how nice it was to have something different…and fresh…and flavorful at a child’s party and I couldn’t have agreed more. Plus, when it comes to prep and clean up, there wasn’t any! Daphne’s provided the trays of food, napkins, utensils and plates!

Inspired by Pinterest, I really wanted to make cupcakes for the big day, but when my little guys said he wanted a cake, I decided to leave it to the pros at Albertson’s. We ordered their Sponge Bob Square Pants Pirate cake minus the Sponge Bob and replaced them with our own Mickey and friends pirate toys.
