Wow!
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHMLA) has been named among the top ten “Best Museums for Families” nationwide by USA TODAY/10Best. Following an initial selection process of 20 nominees by a panel of experts in partnership with the publication’s 10Best editors, the final winners were determined by a popular vote of readers across the country. NHMLA is the only winning natural history museum on the list, as well as the sole museum based in California or the West Coast. Other winners include The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis at number one, The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, and the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois, among others (the complete list of winners can be found on the 10Best website here).
NHMLA and its fellow winners represent some of the best, most dynamic learning institutions and travel destinations for families in the United States. The Museum has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past 8 years, including 4 new permanent exhibits with interactives and multimedia, the 3 1/2 acre Nature Gardens and a family-friendly Nature Lab, which features the rich biodiversity of L.A. NHMLA engages visitors of all ages in exhibits about dinosaurs, mammals, and the history and nature of L.A., as well as presents live performances with life-size dinosaur puppets, interaction with paleontologists at the Dino Lab, and hands-on activities in the Discovery Center. Currently at the Museum, visitors can experience the new Butterfly Pavilion, the Nature Gardens in full bloom, and theBlu: An Underwater VR Experience, an immersive underwater journey alongside manta rays, angler fish and a blue whale in virtual reality. The upcoming 31st annual Bug Fair (May 20-21) features exotic insect collections, bug-inspired crafts, unusual snacks and much more for the whole family.
