At the time, I had no clue what she meant, but later learned that she was not only taking care of her young children, but both of her parents as well. Because of their health, they had both come to live with her and her family…thus creating a ‘sandwich.’
More common than not, as it turns out. And I’m willing to bet many families right here in Burbank are in this situation as well. I’m willing to bet many of the Burbank Moms around us are in this situation, and you and I both know how much work goes into just raising our children.
According to St. Joe’s Website, “In the US, there are over 65 million family caregivers currently taking care of a loved one going through a health crisis….These are husbands and wives, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, family and friends who are taking care of each other. Caregivers are often depressed, stressed and depleted which can lead to burnout…often causing stress related disorders that can take up to ten years off the life of the caregiver.”
Leeza Gibbons has started a support center for these caregivers at our very own St. Joeseph’s Hospital in Burbank. She has a new book out called, Take 2: Your Guide to Creating Happy Endings and New Beginnings and this coming Saturday, she will be hosting a book reading and signing.

“With this book about starting over, I honor all of those who were sucked into their next act
without the luxury of choosing it. But caregivers, most of all, can find the value and the promise of
creating a fresh start. See, you’re the author of your own book and it’s time for a dramatic plot twist,
so let’s get working on that. This is not the end of your story; this is where you learn about second acts, second chances, and new beginnings”.-Leeza
