My husband plays hockey. When we met, I knew nothing about hockey…close your eyes honey…but I still kind of know very little about hockey.
I enjoy sports and I love him, so I like to watch him play, I’ll sometimes sit and watch it on TV with him and I’ll usually never pass on a Kings game downtown. Hey, live sports are always better. Except Golf…. that, I can’t do. I’m too impatient.
Back to roller hockey.
Did you know that just three years ago, the city was considering tearing out our roller hockey rink or doing something else with it? In those three years, Frank has had a hand in rolling it in a different direction…the pun was unavoidable.
Frank says, “We are now at about 90% capacity for the rink and we are hoping to add a second rink and enclose the facility. In just three short years we now have about 650 players on 65 teams. They are very happy with the program. The adult league is pretty solid top to bottom. My focus is now to continue to build the youth program.”
Frank offers FREE hockey to beginner kids on Friday nights. “We start them from as young as 4 years old. We give them free equipment head to toe and have free rink time on Fridays for them.”
Not sure you kid would like roller hockey? Don’t invest in anything except time and opportunity…come see Frank on a Friday night.
Kids do like hockey. He says, “We have been running the youth program for about two years in those two short years we have already built the kids into 4 divisions with 14 teams and we are looking to start up another one this season.”
Even though I’m not a parent with kids involved in hockey (yet), I do know how popular this sport is. I say just give the kids a chance to try!
