I met a young man a few weeks ago who inspired me deeply.
Max Page is a child actor, but not just any child actor. Max has had some life challenges that have helped shape his path and focus where he spends his time.
Now, don’t get me wrong, he’s a 3rd grade boy who probably plays ball and the occasional video game, but he does work for charity that will inspire you too.
A short time ago, you saw Max in the fantabulous Volkswagen commercial starring him as ‘lil Darth Vader. (Video at bottom of post) Max also currently plays a member of a predominant family on The Young & The Restless. But, what I went to visit Max for this particular day is the work he’s doing with The Jessie Rees Foundation and Joy Jars™.

The Jessie Rees Foundation is a recognized 501c3 public charity dedicating to ensuring every child fighting cancer has the encouragement, resources and support to Never Ever Give Up. Max has spent a lot of time at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Children’s Hospital Orange County as he’s had heart surgery and other treatments. Actually, as small of a world as it is, Max had heart surgery at Children’s LA with the same surgical team that worked on my daughter’s heart…within months of each other. This gave his mother Jennifer and I something really awesome to talk about…blessed hands that save lives.
The idea of these jars came from Jessie Rees, a 12 year old young lady who lost her battle with cancer. In the middle of her treatments, she opted to not look at herself and the situation she was in, but the situations of others.
Jessie started filling bags of ‘joy’ for other children at the hospital who didn’t get to leave like she did.
She spread so much joy while she was here, and that joy hasn’t stopped because she’s no longer with us… she’s left a legacy.
Watch the video below to learn more…and I double dog dare you not to want to be involved…and also not cry.

Max page never met Jessie, but he said he can ‘feel her spirit’ through working with her dream. Did I mention that Max is one well spoken, bright young man? He is.
He started is own Joy Squad to help and has created several Joy Jars for children in local hospitals. This particular day, I, along with several others, helped Max fill about 50 jars that will go to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
It was a distinct privilege to be able to do this with this young man. I’m so happy to know about Jessie Rees and the amazing things she’s inspired others to do. This world is amazing because of people like her.
I was also humbled to talk with Stacey Rees, Jessie’s mother.
Stacey and her husband Erik have dedicated a lot of their time helping make Jessie’s dream a reality. We talked about loss and how doing things in the name of someone so special to you helps you heal and get through something so difficult.
The Rees Family is truly a remarkable testimony to Jessie’s mission to Never Ever Give Up.
