You are never too old to try new things, and thanks to Pro SUP Shop, I just did something new! Recently, the city of Marina Del Rey, California invited me down to experience a little bit of what they offer, in exchange for my honest opinion. When I saw that paddle boarding was an option, I immediately went for that. I had never done it but always wanted to try stand up paddle boarding. So I went to the best, Pro SUP Shop!

Last week, I had the huge privilege to meet up with Mike Vaughn, owner and operator of Pro SUP (Stand Up Paddle Boarding) Shop in Marina Del Rey. He clearly loves what he does and it comes to no surprise that he, himself was a competitive paddle board racer. He’s actually spent over 3 hours on a paddle board, racing to Catalina Island! I absolutely love meeting people who are passionate about what they do. When someone loves what they do for a living, your experience as a patron will always be great. And that was the case here.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding gives you an opportunity to see the water from a different perspective. And on this bright Sunday morning, I was able to take a look at the Pacific Ocean in a way I had not previously. I was able to go at my own pace, have great conversation with a friend, enjoy the close up view of sea lions basking in the sun and I got a nice workout while doing it.

5. It’s the best friend date ever

Finding fun activities to do with others is always fun. Especially if your friends love adventure like you do! I’m making a commitment to have more play-dates with my friends this year, and this was the PERFECT play-date. We were able to calmly, at our own pace, paddle along the channel toward the ocean and have plenty of conversation. Trying new things is fun, and making a mom-date was the perfect morning for me.

4. It’s an affordable (and physical) activity to try with your family

Do things as a family! Stay active and enjoy the great outdoors. If your family is full of great swimmers who aren’t afraid of the water, I really do suggest trying paddle boarding. But, do know, life jackets are provided for everyone. Paddle boarding is definitely a workout and provides you the opportunity to see and feel the ocean in a really fun way. Pro SUP Shop also offers kayaks as well!

3. Mother’s Beach is the best beach in Marina Del Rey

I’ve not seen a better family beach than Mother’s Beach in Marina Del Rey. This beach is a man-made, wave less beach and is PERFECT for learning to paddle board, if it’s your first time. Even if you’re sitting and waiting for your more water-loving friends to return, this beach has lifeguards and safe, marked off spaces in the area for the kids to swim safely. It’s in close walking distance to plenty of restaurants and has BBQ’s and tables for picnicking.

2. Pro SUP Shop has great instructors and equipment

You will not be heading out on a paddle board without clear instructions and safety guidelines. They have boards of all sizes and will take the time to fit you perfectly to a paddle and board. Before you walk your board out for your ocean experience, you will absolutely know how to get on and off, how to paddle and steer and where you can venture off to! Basically, you’re in great hands.

Also know that they offer private and group lessons and can even host special events!

1. They love what they do!

When you are in the company of people who love what they do, you know it. Mike Vaughn an his team at Pro SUP Shop love being in, on and around the water and their love of the ocean extends to you through their operations and customer service. This is a passion for Mike and his team members, and you and I both know that when a business owner and their employees are passionate about what they do, they’re happy, helpful and inviting. It makes the best experience for everyone.

I couldn’t recommend this experience more. Mother’s Beach in Marina Del Rey might just be one of my new favorite beaches. It’s nestled in an area where the water is calm and perfect for little ones, with lifeguards on duty. With the calm waters, It’s also a perfect place to get out on a paddle board or kyak, whether you’re a beginner or not. These guys will hook you up and let you have your own experience.

Plan a day to get to Marina Del Rey and go get on a Paddle Board. You and your family will have a great memory and possibly, a new hobby!
