I am a little like dad right now when he tells his only daughter that she is his favorite daughter. The truth is, the list of top 18 park playgrounds in Burbank represents ALL the park playgrounds in Burbank. But its time to recognize each of them because July is National Parks and Recreation Month! And the National Recreation and Park Association is challenging all us families to get our kiddos out to the park and “Get Your Play On!”
Playgrounds are a gift to the whole family. When your kids have sat for too long and are developing a case of the crazies, the park is your lifeline. And we are lucky because Burbank is known for its fabulous parks that are generously sprinkled around town making it convenient for nearly any citizen to walk, bike or drive over with their kids.
As a Burbank bike family, the park has become a daily must do. We bike to most local destinations and sometimes the kids need to get out of the bike trailer to release their wiggles. You might see us staring at our phones while we balance the bike on a sidewalk and our kids grow antsier, searching Google for the nearest park.
It became clear to me that an easy to access list was hard to find. A friend shared a pdf map of all the parks, which had been printed in an online city recreation guide, but this is 2017 and I need to be able to click on something that I can carry in my pocket which will verbally and visually direct me to exactly where I need to go! I would hate to strain my brain, thank you very much.
Feeling motivated by the need, I decided to practice a little online cartography and make my own map of park playgrounds. The map can be downloaded to any mobile devise and will automatically give you directions in Google maps when you click on the park of choice. So, without further ado, I give you a list and map of the 18 park playgrounds in Burbank! I challenge you to check out all the parks near you and #playonjuly in honor of National Parks and Recreation Month.
Go get your park on!
